SlotWorld's Daytona Casino on Highway 50 in Dayton is set to break ground Thursday after a two-month delay in obtaining permits, a company official said Tuesday.
Daytona project manager Kevin Hogan said the $7 million to $9 million casino will require about 100 employees. He said management will begin hiring for all positions in August or September.
"The casino design emphasizes fun and excitement and it will feature 250 of the latest multi-denomination 'ticket-in, ticket-out' games manufactured by IGT, Williams and Aristocrat," he said Tuesday.
Miles Brothers Construction of Mound House will head construction of the 15,000-square-foot casino. It was designed by Bartlett Architecture of Reno. Nevada State Bank financed the project.
The SlotWorld company, which is owned by four Carson City residents, operates SlotWorld at 3879 Highway 50 E. SlotWorld's Cabaret, 324 E. Winnie Lane; and a smoke shop/casino in the Carson Mall.
SlotWorld's Daytona is scheduled for completion in mid-November, and it will co-anchor Dayton Delta LLC's commercial center surrounding Smith's.
About 20 businesses will locate in Dayton Delta's commercial center, developed by the Hone Co. The development's first phase is on Retail Road and includes about nine retail spaces. Jack In the Box and Taco Bell are in this first phase. The completion date for this phase is July.
Phase two of construction, on the side of Pine Cone Road, will include Dollar Tree, Quizno's and Great Clips, said Hone Co. partner Chris Bonafede, who is managing the commercial center. He said this phase should be completed by December. Together, the project's phases will add more than 25,000 square feet of retail space.
"We're basically 100 percent leased," he said.
Daytona will be the community's third casino. Its nearest competitors are the Depot Casino and the Red Hawk Sports Bar, both located on the highway. Those two properties will be sold to Reno-based gaming company Sands Regent. The sale is expected to close in midsummer.
