Two Fallon men died from injuries sustained Thursday night after the pickup they were driving crashed in a single-vehicle accident on Paiute Drive in Fallon.
The victims were identified as Sampson Dewey, 32, and Michael Dixon, 29.
Dewey was driving the 1987 Dodge Ram pickup, and Dixon was the passenger. Both were ejected from the truck, and neither were wearing seat belts.
Police suspect alcohol played a role in the crash. Churchill County Sheriff Richard Ingram said investigating officers found open alcoholic beverage containers and reported smelling alcohol at the scene. He said blood was drawn from both men, and toxicology reports would not be available for one to two weeks.
Ingram said the sheriff's department received a call at 7:35 p.m. from an anonymous person that a traffic accident had occurred on Paiute Drive. Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene less than 5 minutes after the call was placed.
In the investigation, officers determined that the truck carrying Dewey and Dixon was traveling at a high rate of speed east on Paiute Drive.
According to the sheriff's department, officers believe Dewey overcorrected the truck at a curve on the rural road, which caused the vehicle to veer off the south side.
Ingram said the investigation showed that the truck rolled over several times before resting on its passenger side.
Dewey and Dixon were taken to Banner Churchill Community Hospital, where Dewey was pronounced dead. Dixon was treated at the hospital then flown to Washoe Medical Center in Reno, where he died early Friday.
