(Staff report) A Carson City man was charged in an alleged attempted assault on a deputy Saturday that resulted in the man being shot twice.

Will McDaniels, 34, was booked into the Carson City Jail on Wednesday on suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. The warrant for his arrest put the bail at $50,000.

According to reports, Deputy Mark Jongsma, 39, responded to a report of a suicide threat in the 1900 block of H Street about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

As Jongsma left his vehicle, McDaniels, armed with a butcher knife, allegedly came from between mobile homes and lunged at Jongsma.

The deputy fired three shots, hitting McDaniel once in the left leg and once in the lower-right abdomen, said Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Jongsma is on paid administrative leave until an investigation is complete.

The Nevada Department of Investigation is handling the case.
