Badger fire 40 percent contained

Crews working the Badger fire east of Carson City say they have the 750-acre fire 40 percent to 50 percent contained.

Progress was made overnight on the fire that started at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, but high temperatures and low humidity today are keeping things challenging for firefighters working the steep and rocky terrain in southeast Brunswick Canyon.

Sedge Road and Brunswick Canyon Road are closed to all but emergency and fire-related traffic and residents are asked to stay clear of Brunswick Canyon due to limited access.

The fire is burning in pinon, juniper, cheat grass and sagebrush. Threats at this time include sage grouse habitat and deer winter range; scenic and recreation values.

Two air tankers, two helicopters, six hand crews, 16 engines, six water tenders, one dozer, a command staff and 183 personnel continue to battle the blaze.

Agencies on scene include the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, Lyon and Douglas county fire departments Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Sheriff's Office, Nevada Division of Forestry, and U.S. Forest Service.
