Brewery member calls for meeting, election

Saying the Brewery Arts Center Board of Directors is not complying with the organization's own by-laws, BAC member Chris Bayer has called for an informal meeting of members, board members and staff next week.

Bayer declined to comment Thursday, but in a letter sent to the Nevada Appeal on Tuesday, he states the purpose of the meeting is to petition BAC directors to hold its annual membership meeting and election.

The meeting may be moot, however. Brewery Arts Center board member Eleanor Bugli said the board has already set a date for its annual meeting and election.

The process was postponed by board members, even though six vacancies had opened up on the 11-member board, because the center was in the midst of hiring a new director. Event-promoting veteran John Procaccini filled the post last month.

"We felt it was prudent not to bring on new members (during the time of change)," Bugli said.

Several candidates have already put their names in for the vacancies, Bugli said, and although it hasn't been announced, a date for the election has been set.

The informal meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St.
