Cardinals settle for a split

The Carson Cardinals baseball team settled for a split on Friday in the Doc Stewart's Invitational in Roseburg, Ore.

The Cardinals beat the McNary Mets of Salem, Ore., for the second time 11-5 before losing to the host team, Doc Stewart's 10-0. The Cardinals are 2-1 and can still advance to Sunday's championship game with a win against Doc Stewart's at 7 p.m. today in the final contest of pool play.

Doc Stewart's is 1-1 after being upset by McNary. Doc Stewart's still has one more game left with McNary today as well. If the Cardinals don't advance to the championship game, they will still play on Sunday.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against McNary. Royal Good was hit by a pitch, Jeremiah Teeter singled and Logan Parsley was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brooks Greenlee followed with a two-run single, Jeff Young had an RBI single and Jack Jacquet hit an RBI sacrifice fly.

After McNary came back to tie the game 4-4, Carson scored three runs in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead. Greenlee and Young singled, Jacquet belted an RBI single, David Leid doubled and Bryt Lewis had an RBI sacrifice fly during the rally.

In the sixth, the Cardinals went up 10-5. Young singled, Leid had an RBI double and Sean Costella had an RBI during the rally. Good scored on a passed ball to finish the scoring in the seventh.

Ed Lovelace went 4.2 innings for the win. Young didn't allow a run over 2.1 innings to pick up the save.

Good, Greenlee and Costella each had a hit against Doc Stewart's.
