Penny Marsh of Reno reported the 11th Annual Model Dairy Charity Fishing Derby was held at Pyramid Lake on March 12-13.
That derby was sponsored by Model Dairy of Reno, who will distribute 100 percent of the proceeds from the event to children's organizations such as Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern Nevada and Batten Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA).
There were a total of 917 fishermen entered from as far away as Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The winners of the derby were:
First Place Team of Frank Zubieta, Matt Lyons, Tony Ross and Jeff Winters with a total weight of 42.74 pounds won $1,000.
Second Place Team of Bob Martin, Rob Martin, Gabe Martin and Blaine McClusky with a total weight of 37.28 pounds won $800.
Third Place Team of Jeff Morris, Jason Langslat, Jason Pierce and Paul Unaetti with a total weight of 31.55 pounds won $600.
The heaviest cutthroat was caught by Jeremy Anthony. It weighed 9.35 pounds and measured 28.5 inches. It won $2,000.
The second heaviest was caught by Travis Edgar. It weighed 8.72 pounds and won $1,000.
The third heaviest was caught by Frank Zubieta. It weighed 8.59 pounds and won $500.
The smallest fish was caught by John Rice. It weighed 0.88 pounds and measured 17 1/8 inches. It won $500.
