Gloria Sosa and Floyd Hernandez each were triple winners to lead an outstanding effort by the Carson High boys and girls track teams at the Northern Nevada Junior Varsity Invitational on Tuesday.

Carson also won five of six relays and likely would have swept all six relays had the boys 4X100 team not dropped the baton. The team was still able to finish in 51.02 seconds.

While official team results were still unavailable, Carson coach Todd Ackerman said he believed that both boys and girls teams were in the running for the title. He said he calculated his girls team to having 117 points while the boys team had 60-70 points.

"Our kids did a good job," Ackerman said. "They competed real well. Gloria Sosa had a big day."

Sosa won the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 57.27 seconds and the 800 in 2:38.3. She also ran along with Kelli Brothers, Magan Myers and Julisa Gonzalez on the winning 4x400 relay (4:30).
