Tree care seminar coming this week

The Carson City Shade Tree Council is offering a tree care seminar from 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Community Center Sierra Room. Registration is from 7:30-8 a.m.

Civil Air Patrol to speak at Footprint meeting

Carson Valley Chapter 72 of the International Footprint Association will hold its November meeting on Thursday at the Carson Nugget in Carson City. Social Hour starts at 6 p.m. with dinner starting at 7 p.m. Following dinner, guest speakers will be Jack Clark, John Arnold and Scott Lilley. Their presentation will be about the Nevada Civil Air Patrol, its mission and how it interacts with government agencies.

Roadrunners to meet at Grandma Hattie's

This month's meeting of the Carson City Roadrunners R.V. Club will be Nov. 17, at Grandma Hattie's Restaurant. Lunch is at 12:45 followed by the meeting.

The meeting will be a recap of the campouts this year and preliminary ideas for the coming year.

Retired federal employees meeting at library

NARFE Min-Gard Chapter 2167 will hold a meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Minden Library. Guest speaker Don Babb will speak on the NARFE Chapter Management Symposium. The nominating committee will present a slate of candidates for 2006 officers. Nominations from the floor are acceptable and the election will follow immediately.

Medicare prescription plan topic of seminar

Starting Jan. 1, Medicare will offer prescription drug plans to help pay for the prescriptions you need. You will need a Medicare prescription drug plan for Medicare to pay for your drugs. If you don't join a plan by May 15, Medicare will automatically enroll you in a plan to make sure you get help paying for your prescription drugs.

The Douglas County Senior Center in conjunction with SHIP will host two opportunities for assistance with the new Medicare Part D Drug Prescription Program:

1. At 11 a.m. Wednesday, Susan Olsen from SHIP will give a one-hour presentation at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville.

2. SHIP is presently scheduling appointments for personalized, one-on-one counseling concerning Medicare Part D. The one-hour sessions will run between 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Douglas County Senior Center.

Get two for one books at library book swap

The Douglas County Public Library will host a children's book swap at the Lake Tahoe branch to celebrate Children's Book Week. Bring your used books to the library from 3-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. For every book a child brings, two books may be taken home.

Picture books, fiction, non-fiction and series books will be available for ages preschool though teens. Some of the series available are: Goosebumps, Babysitter's Club, and Choose-Your-Own-Adventure.

This is a great opportunity to clean off your shelves and swap your books for others. Celebrate reading and books.
