Local sportsmen's club to hold its annual end-of-year banquet

The Ormsby Sportsmen's Association (OSA), a local organization for hunters and fishermen, will hold its annual end-of-the-year banquet, this Saturday evening, Dec. 3.

That banquet, which annually attracts about 125+ attendees, will be held, as usual, at the Carson Nugget Convention Center.

The evening will begin, earlier than usual this year, with a no-host cocktail hour at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 5:30.

Cost to attend is $25 per person.

Activities

If you would like to attend, it will be a fun-filled evening of food, drinks, door prizes, raffles, live auctions, silent auctions, introductions, serious presentations, "burn awards," and a "Skin's Drawing."

The door prizes will include:

A hunting vest for women.

A big game combination knife and saw set for men.

The raffle will include:

A special raffle for men for a gift certificate to Cabela's.

A special raffle for women for a gift certificate to Cabela's.

The auction will include:

Assorted, framed artwork.

Overnight stays at Harvey's Hotel and Casino at Lake Tahoe.

Golf packages at local courses.

Sport fishing at Lake Tahoe.

A 12-gauge shotgun.

Serious presentations include:

The Big Buck Contest for the member getting the largest buck deer in 2005, and Fishing Awards by Categories such as largest 2005 cutthroat trout, Mackinaw trout, rainbow trout and Walleye.

The burn awards include: "The You Screwed Up" award to the member, who is voted on at the banquet, as having screwed up the worst during the year.

Note: Elaine won last year for accidentally canceling my credit card while checking my account to see if I had been drawn for any of the Nevada big game hunts.

The "Sure Shot" award goes to the member who fired the most shots during the hunting season.

The all-time record is held by an archer who fired more than 20 arrows one year, without success.

The "Skin's Drawing" is a cash prize awarded only if you are a paid-up member and if you are present at the banquet.

I plan to win that pot of cash this year!

Also included on the evening's agenda will be the introduction of the club's newly-elected president and the introduction of the three newly-elected directors to the club's board of directors.

Candidates for president are: Mike Gower, Greg Hein, Steve Bowers, LaNora Clyde and Bob Kulik.

The individual who receives the most votes will serve as club president for 2006. The person with the second-most votes will serve as vice-president for that period.

The candidates for the board of directors are: John Evans, Jerry Dyke, Mike Fettic, Dave Hamlin and Scott Mattheus.

Three of them will be elected to serve a three-year term of office (2006-2007-2008).

OSA Info

This will be last official OSA function of 2005. The next OSA regular meeting will be at the Carson Nugget, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

OSA meets on the third Tuesday of each month for the months of January-May, has outdoor picnics in June-September and is back indoors in October and November. There is no meeting in December.

All OSA meetings, functions and activities are free of charge and open to all club members and to anyone else who is interested in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, etc.

Among the club's various activities throughout the year are meetings, picnics, the annual banquet, "Adopt A Highway," sponsoring a youth to the U.S.F.S. Wilderness Workshop, and involvement with the Carson Valley Chukar Club, Nevada Wildlife Federation, the Mule Deer Foundation, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited.

The OSA annual membership dues are $5 for adults and $2 for youngsters under the age of 16.

That's correct, annual dues are only $5. One heck of a deal!
