The Douglas High boys basketball team ran into one of the best teams in the country in a 76-33 loss to Memorial of Fresno, Calif., in the Buchanan-Clovis West Tournament on Thursday in Fresno.
Memorial, ranked 19th in the country, features two 6-11 twins who are going to Stanford and Quincy Poindexter, who is going to Washington. Poindexter scored 34 points while the twins combined for 18 points. "They're extremely talented and very deep," Douglas coach Rob Streeter said.
Keith Olson, the Tigers' 6-9 post player, led Douglas with 16 points and was 4-of-4 from the foul line. Memorial led 23-8 after one quarter and 47-16 at halftime, but Streeter said his team settled down in the third quarter.
"There were times where we played well," Streeter said. "I was proud of the way my boys competed throughout the game.
"I thought we played a solid third quarter. We had some very solid defensive and offensive sequences for a 4 1/2 minute stretch."
Douglas will play the loser between Buchanan of Clovis, Calif., and Bakersfield Christian, Calif., at 7 p.m. today.
