A Yerington mother will spend up to 12 years in prison for the abuse of her 2-year-old son.

Angela Morales-Rosales, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of abuse, neglect and endangerment causing substantial bodily harm and received a sentence of 48 to 144 months in prison on Monday.

According to court documents, Morales-Rosales beat the boy in May causing "an acute subdural hematoma," which is a collection of blood on the surface of the brain, that required surgery.

She initially claimed the boy fell, but later admitted she assaulted him.

Charges were dismissed against Morales-Rosales' live-in boyfriend, Agustine Ruiz-Viramontes.

In exchange for the plea, the Lyon County District Attorney's Office dropped two identical charges.
