Carson-Tahoe Hospital andCarson Tahoe Regional Medical Center timeline:

• 1949 - Carson-Tahoe Hospital, 775 Fleischmann Way, opens with 15 patient beds.

• 1968 - A fire destroys a small portion of the hospital while new hospital is under construction. Patients move into new hospital in November.

• 1997 - Rehabilitation center opens inside the hospital with 30 beds.

• 1999 - The women and children's center is added. Hospital has a total of 101 patient rooms, 75 percent of which are double occupancy.

• March 2002 - Carson-Tahoe Hospital becomes a private organization.

• September 2003 - Construction begins on the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, 1600 Medical Parkway.

• March 14, 2005 - Opening of Sierra Surgery & Imaging center, 1400 Medical Parkway, with 15 inpatient rooms and six operating rooms.

• Dec. 3, 2005 - Opening of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center with 144 private rooms; Carson-Tahoe Hospital becomes Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center. The first floor only will be used for out-patient services.

• Summer 2006 - The first 40,000-square-foot medical office building, on the west side of Sierra Surgery, will open.

Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center will open for long-term acute care.

• Fall 2006 - Carson Tahoe Cancer Center and the first seven Merriner Cottages will open northwest of the hospital. The cottages are for cancer patient/guest housing.

• 2007 - The final seven Merriner Cottages will open.

• To be announced: The completion of the second medical office building on the east side of Sierra Surgery.
