A De-Spooking Clinic sponsored by High Desert Horsemen will be at 9 a.m. Sunday, at 11225 Silver Lane, Stagecoach. Teach your horse ground manners, to go through obstacles, and become de-sensitized.

One spot left for horsemanship clinic

A Natural Horsemanship Clinic, conducted by Joyce Gay, will be at 9 a.m. Oct. 22, 23 and 24 at 11225 Silver Lane, Stagecoach. The clinic covers: 1. Introduction and orientation on horse handling skills with emphasis on ground work, trail safety, riding skills, communication and problem solving. 2. Two full days of extensive ground skills. 3. A third day applying those techniques to actual riding skills. There is only one spot left.

Carson City

Fundraiser benefits ill Dayton High graduate

A spaghetti fundraiser to benefit Joey Conti, a graduate of Dayton High School who has chronic myeloid leukemia, is scheduled from 3-7 p.m., Sunday at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Tickets are $5 by calling Kelly Ibarra at the senior center at 883-0703. Tickets are limited.

Raffle tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at the dinner, which will be cooked by the Conti family, but provided through generous donors. Ibarra is in need of paper products to help with the dinner and needs more silent auction items.

Chronic myeloid leukemia is most successfully treated with a bone marrow transplant, and Conti is waiting to find if his younger brother is a match. All the money raised through sales of tickets will be given to Joey to help with medical expenses.

Anyone interested in helping, but who cannot make the dinner, is welcome to contribute to the Joey Conti Cancer Fund, account no. 6477449810 at any Wells Fargo bank.

Lacy J. Dalton sings with symphony

Country singing star Lacy J. Dalton will be the featured guest soloist in the opening concert of the Carson City Symphony's 22nd concert season at 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Carson City Community Center.

The concert, a lead-in to the Nevada Day "Wild West" celebrations, will include a "meet-the-soloist" preview with Dalton and conductor David Bugli at 3:15 p.m. in the Sierra Room. A post-concert reception will be held at the Brougher-Bath Mansion, 204 W. Spear St.

The symphony, directed by David Bugli and guest conductor Eric Gault, will play music featuring themes celebrating horses: domestic, military, wild, and mythical. The program includes Suppé's "Light Cavalry Overture," Rossini's "William Tell Overture," Borodin's "Polovtsian Dances," the Nevada premiere of A. Paul Johnson's "Pegasus" and Gwyneth Walker's "Dance of the Wild Ponies."

Proceeds will benefit the Comstock Wild Horse Sanctuary and the Carson City Symphony Association. Tickets are $20 for general admission; $15 for seniors, students, and Carson City Symphony Association members; and free for age 16 and under. Reception tickets are $15 additional. Portuguese music at the Fallon theater

The Churchill Arts Council will present a performance of the Portuguese music of Cape Verde by Maria de Barros and her band in the Barkley Theater, Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $17 for Churchill Arts Council members, $20 for nonmembers and are available in Fallon at Jeff's Copy Express, Postage Plus or by calling the Churchill Arts Council at (775) 423-1440.

Doors will open at 7p.m., and there will be a no-host bar.

Hilton show benefits Piper's, Red Cross

Nine musicians from some of rock's most honored bands will descend upon the Reno Hilton Theater Friday Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. for a benefit concert.

The World Classic Rockers concert will benefit Piper's Opera House and the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. Tickets are $50 reserved seating, $40 general admission, $30 for students and military, and $62.50 reserved seating with a meet-and-greet pass. Bringing together former members of Steppenwolf, Journey, Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Toto, World Classic Rockers plays classic rock by all of these bands, plus hits from Janis Joplin, Jefferson Starship and more. The band includes Nick St. Nicholas and Michael Monarch of Steppenwolf, drummer Aynsley Dunbar or Journey, vocalist Alex Ligertwood of Santana, Randall Hall of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Fergie Fredericksen of Toto.

Virginia City

'Phantom' performed at Opera House

The Nevada Civic Light Opera presents "The Phantom of the Opera" at Piper's Opera House in Virginia City Oct. 21 at 7 p.m., Oct. 22 at 2 p.m.. and 7 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.

Mark D. Williams appears as The Phantom and Emily Beck Hammer as Christine.

Opening-night Champagne Gala tickets are $25. Other nights tickets are $20 reserved and $15 general.
