More killing charges may come

More people may be charged as accessories in the killing of a Carson City man whose body was found last week in Brunswick Canyon.

"I think it's likely there may be some others who helped after the fact, and that could be charged," said District Attorney Noel Waters.

Danny Ray Shaw, 21; Tyler Whitney Cruz, 24; and Juan Cervantes Jr., 20, have been arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of Adam Wells, 20.

The men, who were all friends at one time, allegedly beat Wells with a bat on Wednesday at Shaw's Stanford Drive home, wrapped him in a blanket, and left his body in Brunswick Canyon.

Thursday night at about 10:30 p.m., a friend came to police claiming Shaw had told him about Wells' beating.

Early Friday morning, Shaw allegedly took investigators to the body and truck dumped in the desert five miles off of Sedge Road east of Carson City.

According to police records, at least two other people helped dispose of shoes and other evidence relating to the assault in the hours following the killing.

Investigators recovered several items during a search Friday night at the 1400 Stanford Drive home rented by Wells, said Undersheriff Steve Albertsen.

"The entire residence was photographed. They located areas that appeared to be freshly cleaned, took samples of stains on a rug and material from the fireplace," he said.

A witness said evidence of the crime was burned in the fireplace, according to police records.

A memorial for Wells will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at FitzHenry's Chapel of Faith on North Edmonds Drive.

Wells was a manager for Nevada Fitness and attending Western Nevada Community College studying for a career in the medical field.

He is survived by his parents Jerry and Donna Wells of Carson City, sister, Jennifer of Reno; grandparents Don and Della Ruell of Coos Bay, Ore.; aunts and uncles Jackie and Gordon Montgomery of Eugene, Ore., Sandra and Bruce McKibben of Florence, Ore., and Michael Ruell of Eugene, Ore.; and five cousins.

Shaw, Cruz and Cervantes are being held without bail.
