What a difference a field makes.
After struggling to a 3-2 win on Damonte Ranch's less than stellar field earlier in the season, the Carson High girls soccer team had no trouble in dispatching of Damonte Ranch 5-0 on Tuesday at CHS to stay unbeaten in the Sierra League.
Carson fell behind 2-0 against Damonte Ranch in the first meeting before coming back, but had no trouble on Tuesday. In the first meeting, Damonte Ranch played a compact defense and looked to score on breakaways, which it was able to do twice on Carson mistakes.
But on Tuesday, Damonte Ranch tried to be more attacking, but to no avail. "With our defenders they didn't have a chance," Carson coach Randy Roser said.
Krista Wisbar, Belle Fleming, Sammy Valerius, Anna Macquarie, Jill Coats and Brandy Cantley all played well defensively for Carson. Goalies Alli Otto and Brittany DeRosa combined to post the shutout. Roser also praised the play of Ann Sinnott and Sophia Raphael on the wings.
"Our passing was superb," Roser said. "The girls settled down and just played consistent the whole night."
Brandi Vega contributed to Carson's first two goals while Kayla Sanchez contributed to the last three. Vega scored off of an assist from Kasey Cano and then drew a foul. Valerius scored on the penalty kick to make it 2-0.
Sanchez and Cano combined on the next two goals. Sanchez scored on an assist from Cano and then Cano scored on an assist from Sanchez. Sanchez scored the last goal on an assist from Carli Smith.

Dayton fell behind 2-0 in the first eight minutes, but was able to come back to force a 2-2 tie at halftime on goals by Natasha Olivera and Leah Kennedy. After Truckee regained a 3-2 lead, Carol Thiesing scored on an assist from Olivera to tie the score 3-3.
