Carson City Public Works will take calls beginning Nov. 2 for residents to have their name put on a list for free yard debris pickup.
Starting Nov. 7 and extending through Nov. 10, Carson City Public Works will be picking up yard debris consisting of leaves, weeds and limbs. Leaves and yard debris must be placed in plastic bags and tied securely.
Limbs must be bundled in lengths no longer than 6 feet and weighing no more than 60 pounds.
"We try to do this every year to help keep Carson City clean," said Tom Hoffert, public works operation manager.
"We've been doing this at least since 2001, maybe longer."
Hoffert said now is the most optimum time to clean yard debris before it gets into the storm drains.
Gutters and drainage areas should be kept clear to allow for rain runoff to prevent backup and flooding.
"Most of our trouble spots are on the west side, where there are larger trees. We will pick up leaves, weeds, limbs - organic material only."
Hoffert recommended elderly residents ask neighbors to help them out as the city can't help everyone.
Calls will be taken Nov. 2-9. Loose yard debris should not be swept onto the sidewalk area or into the street or gutter.
When calling, provide name, street address, phone number and type of material to be picked up.
