A 21-year-old Minden man died Tuesday afternoon at Washoe Medical Center of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The man shot himself Monday at 6 p.m. at his residence in downtown Minden. His name was withheld.
According to Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Mezzetta, deputies responded to the report of a shooting incident at a Minden home at Mono Avenue and Second Street.
After shooting himself, the man left the home and wandered out toward Highway 395 before he collapsed.
The intersection was cordoned off from Highway 395 in both directions until 8:30 p.m. as deputies conducted an investigation.
"The Douglas County Sheriff's Office typically will not release information concerning suicides or attempted suicides in respect for the families involved," Mezzetta said.
"Because this tragic incident had occupied such a large public area, the sheriff's office believes it necessary to convey to the general public that at no time was the safety of others in jeopardy."
The man was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center and from there by Care Flight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center in Reno, where he died.
