If you're looking for some hotcakes and have an overwhelming desire to help a child attend college, then the Republican Women's Pancake Breakfast is your means to an end.
From 7-9:30 a.m., pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, orange juice and Starbucks coffee will be offered for $6 in the Nevada Room/Larry Ruvo Stateroom of the Governor's Mansion, 606 N. Mountain St. in Carson City. The food is donated by area businesses and served up by local politicians and political candidates with all the proceeds going to $1,000 scholarships for a student from each Carson High School and Dayton High School.
"It's been close to probably 25 years that we've been doing this," said Kaye Keeton, president of the Carson City Republican Women. Cost of the breakfast is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. This traditional event began more than 20 years ago when a group of Young Republicans, headed by Marie Bensinger, was looking for a way to attract interest in their newly formed organization.
It was taken over by the Carson City Republican Women three years later, with Betty Bensinger, Marie's mother, becoming one of the event's most dedicated workers and organizers.
