A funeral for Helen Miller Smith, 83, of Atlanta, Ill., will be 11 a.m. today at the Atlanta United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at her residence, 200 S.W. Fourth St., Atlanta, and will be today for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Smith died Oct. 25, 2005, at Hopedale Nursing Home in Hopedale, Ill. She was born in Atlanta on Feb. 8, 1922, to Claude I. and Hazel Hoose Miller.
She married Herbert W. Smith on Sept. 14, 1941, in Atlanta. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1962.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Illinois State University at Normal, Ill., and taught in the Olympia School District for 17 years.
She was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Goodwill Builders. She was a former member of the A-Team, Atlanta Library Board, Atlanta Cemetery Association and the Word Weavers, of Bloomington, Ill.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by son James C.; three brothers and one granddaughter.
Among her survivors are daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Gary Gemberling of Atlanta; sons and daughters-in-law Dennis and Sandy of Atlanta and Barry and Jenny of Carson City; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Atlanta United Methodist Church, A-Team, Atlanta Library and Museum or Harbor Light Hospice.
