A Mexico homeless shelter will be the recipient of a $5,000 reward for supplying information to authorities that aided in the safe recovery of a Fernley girl abducted by her mother's boyfriend.
The Carol Sund/Carrington Foundation originally intended to present the money to nuns who came forward to Mexican law enforcement, but when the nuns refused the money, the shelter became the recipient.
Fernando Aguero, 47, remains in custody in Mexico, having allegedly admitted he abducted and sexually assaulted the 8-year-old girl.
The girl and Aguero, an unregistered sex offender from California, were found July 29 at the Ensanada shelter, a week after he took her from her home.
