The Western Nevada Community College baseball team ran its record to 3-0 in its fall season with an impressive 7-4 win over the Reno Astros on Friday at Moana Stadium.
Spanish Springs' Brad Carlsen and Carson High's Aaron Henry led the attack for WNCC. Carlsen had three hits, including a double and solo home run. Henry had two hits, including a triple off the left field wall.
Starting pitching Arnold Toombs pitched three scoreless innings. T. J. Wohlever was the winning pitcher and Ryan Iodence picked up the save.
For the Astros, CHS graduate Joe Mercer, who played for the University of Nevada and professionally, doubled, and former Carson star Cisco Melendez added a hit. Former Galena and Nevada star Jeff Tolotti, who played professionally, started in center field for the Astros and made a spectacular diving catch in right center field to rob Aaron Greer of extra bases.
Former Nevada star and professional player Scott Albin, who is now Carson's pitching coach, started for the Astros and pitched seven solid innings.
The two teams will play again today in a doubleheader at Moana Stadium, beginning at noon.
