Pianist to play BAC Performance Hall
Pianist John Nilsen is playing at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 general and $12 BAC members, seniors, and students with an optional early seating ticket for an additional $3.
John Nilsen is one of the most successful recording artists in the Northwest. With more than 430,000 records sold, Nilsen can be seen performing his original instrumental pieces of jazz, classical, folk and rock throughout the United States and elsewhere in the world. Born in 1956 in Seattle, John and family have been residents of Oregon since 1960.

Library's Oktoberfest coming up Saturday
Carson City Library Foundation will present Oktoberfest 2005 from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday at the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park. Admission is free. The primary purpose of the foundation's fund-raiser is to support future and existing Library programs and projects.
Highlights include improved culinary delights. Elegant Affair, a South Lake Tahoe catering company known for "a sophisticated way to cater," has jumped on the bandwagon as major sponsors of the benefit. Carson City Library Foundation Chairwoman Pat Glick said, "Menu items will entice even the most die-hard connoisseurs of authentic German cuisine, from Jaigerschnitzel to Sauerbraten to Sliced Corned Beef, and many other delicious choices."
Several Oktoberfest brews, Gluehwein (spiced wine), and other fine German wines will be sold. Other highlights include oompah music by the Rhone River Stompers, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and country music by Sierra Express Band, from 6-10 p.m. Along with a book sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Carson City Library, there will be a craft faire, children's activities, a silent auction and a grand prize drawing.

Museum's last yard sale of the season is this weekend
The last yard sale of the year is at the Roberts House Museum Saturday and Sunday. A large collection of dolls, seasonal decorations, vintage jewelry, coins, pictures and more will be available from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Call 887-8865.

Scarecrow Festival at East Fork Gallery
The East Fork Gallery will host its annual Scarecrow Festival from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Minden Park. Kits to create a one-of-a-kind, life-size scarecrow are $7.50.
