Memory Ride to benefit Alzheimer's Association
L-M Ranch will hold the fifth annual Memory Ride: A Ride to Remember, sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association on Oct. 22, at the ranch on Highway 208 in Sweetwater.
Registration will be from 9-10 a.m. Registered riders and walkers receive a
"2005 Ride to Remember" T-shirt with a $25 donation
Saddle-up will be at 10 a.m. Walkers are welcome.
A Western barbecue will start at 1 p.m.. The event will include raffle prizes and a silent auction.

Donations sought for 'Cat House'
The Animal Rescue Foundation is seeking financial help to rebuild the "Cat House" that was demolished in December's high winds. The rebuilding will also include a new feral cat facility.
The organization, a care-for-life sanctuary that accepts "retirement" pets with endowments, also needs a donated vehicle.
The organization announced that it will soon own the property at 28 Highway 95A N., which it has been renting for more than nine years.

Silver Springs
Lyon horsemen to hold riding clinic
A Formation Riding Clinic will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at 2325 Ramsey-Weeks Cutoff, Silver Springs, offered by the Lyon County Horsemen's Association.
All riders under 18 will be required to wear a helmet, which is preferred for all participants.
There will be a $5 fee for all nonmembers.
Hot dogs will be available for lunch between noon and 1 p.m. and participants can bring a salad or desert.

Virginia City
Comstock seeking outhouses to race
Virginia City is looking for a few good outhouses to race in its annual World Championship Outhouse Races on Saturday and Sunday down C Street.
The street will be closed for each race, then reopened.
The event will be a double-elimination tournament with main races on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
Outhouses must be 6 feet high, 3-by-3 feet inside, weigh 200 pounds without the driver, and have a workable toilet seat and door.
Each outhouse has a driver inside and at least two pushers to propel it up C Street. Outhouses can have any number of handles and wheels, but motorized versions are not permitted.
Entry deadline will be at the registration and welcome party, today at Sergeant Major's Silver Dollar Saloon on C Street from 6-11 p.m. On Saturday, inspection will begin at 9 a.m., the annual Outhouse Parade will being at 10:30 a.m., and the races are 11:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. A party will be held at the Millionaires Club of the Washoe at 8 p.m.
On Sunday, an Outhouse Show 'n' Shine will be from 10 a.m. to noon, with the final races to begin at 12:15 p.m. Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. at the Millionaires Club.

Acting workshop for youth planned
Acting workshops for film and television, led by professional director/producer Temma Keatan, begin Tuesday for children and teens ages 5-17. The first class is free.

Flu shots in Minden, Dayton, Carson City
Flu shots will be available to high-risk individuals from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. beginning today at the Carson Mall; 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the Minden Medical Center, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 14 at Dayton Medical Center and noon-4 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Carson Mall.
