Rotter strong at U.S. Nationals

Carson City's Corrinne Rotter had a top 15 and a top 20 finish among juniors in the recent U.S. Alpine Skiing Championships held at SugarLoaf, Main..

Rotter's best finish was the slalom event, with a two run combined time of 1:50:48. She was 26th overall and 12th among juniors born in 1986 or later. Born in 1988, Rotter was one of the younger juniors in attendance.

The race was won by Catilin Ciccone of the US Ski Team, with a combined time of 1:41:85, Olympic Gold Giant Slalom winner, Julia Mancuso was second with combined time of 1:42:74.

Rotter placed 19th for juniors and 34th overall in Giant Slalom. Rotter also raced earlier in the speed events, Downhill and Super Giant Slalom, but she only finished one race of three, crashing into the safety fencing three out of the four days. One of Rotter's goals this year was to attend U.S. Nationals. Her other goal was to lower her FIS points. Rotter has been accepted to the Ivy League's Darmouth in New Hampshire. She also has been accepted to Colorado, the University of Nevada and Denver University.

She has been in touch the ski coaches at all four universities but hasn't made a choice yet. Her final decision will be deferred for at least a year in an attempt to make the U.S. Ski Team.

Rotter graduated from the Winter Sports School in Park City, Utah, in November. She skis for Team Savage Ski Racing. Team Savage is headed by Reno's Mike Savage.
