Nevada's Arbor Day is celebrated on April 28, and in honor of that the National Arbor Day Foundation is offering ten free shade trees - red oak, sugar maple, weeping willow, green ash, thornless honeylocust, pin oak, river birch, tuliptree, silver maple and red maple - to every person who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation in April.


To become a member send a $10 contribution to TEN FREE SHADE TREES, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE, 68410, by April 30, or visit www.arborday.org.




Carson City


Garden center hosts scavenger hunt


The Greenhouse Garden Center will be holding its annual scavenger hunt between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.


Participants will receive a series of clues to follow. Call 882-8600.


Parks and Recreation Commission to meet


The Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Among items scheduled are recommendations about car show policies and fees, and discussion regarding what other site might be viable for a new recreation center if the plan for a facility jointly built and operated with Western Nevada Community College fails.


Douglas County


Young at Heart Community Bingo rescheduled


Young at Heart's community bingo will be at 1 p.m. April 23 due to Easter. These games are held at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane.


Early bird games begin at 1 p.m. and regular games at 1:30 p.m. Call 267-4897.


Virginia City


Mad Hatter's Easter Parade in Virginia City


The Mad Hatter's Easter Parade will begin at 1 p.m. today in Virginia City.


There will be cash prizes for best, biggest, and most bodacious bonnets for women and for men the best, biggest and most bodacious cowboy hats.


Registration begins at noon at the Virginia City Jerky Co., 204 S. C St. Line-up is at 12:30 p.m. Call 847-0311.


Silver City


Silver City holds Easter potluck, parade and hunt


Silver City will be holding a covered dish potluck at 3 p.m. at the Silver city Fire House followed by a parade to the park for an Easter egg hunt.


Kids may bring bikes, scooters, and strollers to the fire house to decorate for the parade. Call 847-7029.


Pleasant Valley


Pleasant Valley's Fire Department delivers Easter Bunny EMT-style


The Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department's Easter celebrations include an Easter egg hunt, raffles, and food today at Washoe Lake State Park from 12:30-2 p.m.


A Care Flight helicopter will deliver the Easter Bunny to the park at 12:45 p.m. The egg hunt will begin shortly after, with children divided by age to hunt for prize-filled eggs.


Admission is free. A raffle will award prizes for just $1 a ticket, and hamburger and hot dog food specials will also be served. All proceeds go to help the local volunteer fire department. Call 849-4922.
