The Dayton High softball team gained a split against Northern 4A Damonte Ranch on Tuesday, winning the opener 4-3 and losing the nightcap 10-2.
Sierra Barnwell was the winner in the opener for Dayton (9-5, 7-3 in the Northern 3A), scattering six hits. The Dust Devils scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead as Katy Cross drove home the go-ahead run with an RBI single. Also for Dayton, Brittany Hill had a hit and a run, Breanne DeHaven had a hit, an RBI and a run and Amanda Beard had two hits and a run.
In the nightcap, Barnwell doubled and tripled, Sara Simmons had a hit and an RBI and Cross added a hit. Jessica Greer also pitched 4.2 innings in relief.
