A funeral service for Eugene Patrick Glackin, 84, a Minden resident since the early 1980s, will be 1 p.m. Friday at FitzHenry's Chapel of Faith. A viewing will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. the day of the service.
Mr. Glackin died April 16, 2006, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was born July 13, 1921, in Everly, Iowa, to Joseph Patrick Glackin and Cora Francis Beatty.
Before moving to Minden, he lived in Los Angeles.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years during World War II in Saipan, Tarawa and Iwo Jima. Mr. Glackin left the Marines with a rank of master sergeant, making history as one of the youngest people to reach the rank of top sergeant. After his service in the military, he served with the Department of Defense for more than 25 years.
He enjoyed bowling, tailoring, cooking and construction.
He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Stella C. Glackin; sisters Alice LeClair and Cecelia Lape; and brother, Lee Glackin.
Among his survivors are son, Gary Paul Glackin of Alhambra, Calif.; sister Blanche Greenside of Minnesota; sister-in-law, Esther Glackin of Redondo Beach, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
