Governor proclaims May as Foster Care month
Gov. Kenny Guinn issued a proclamation Wednesday recognizing May as National Foster Care Month.
The nationwide celebration emphasizes the needs of children and youth in foster care, and paying tribute to the foster families who provide safe and supportive homes for young people in crisis.
To help promote National Foster Care Month, a ribbon-tying event will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at the State Capitol grounds.
A blue ribbon for every child in Nevada's foster care system will be tied to a tree branch.

Child-development screening clinic slated
There will be a screening for developmental and language issues for children aged birth to 5 years old who have problems talking or performing tasks like other children their age, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at the Early Childhood Center at 710 W. Fourth St. Children must be Carson City residents to be eligible for screening.

FRA accepts applications from sea service vets
The Fleet Reserve Association and Ladies Auxiliary are now accepting applications from former members of sea services such as the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. Active duty and retired members are also eligible. The Sierra-Tahoe Branch 137 meets on the fourth Friday of every month at the Heroes Memorial Hall at Second and Curry streets. Dog Town to hold first ever 'Bark in the Park'
Dog Town Canine Rescue and Carson City Animal Services are hosting the first annual "Bark in the Park" multiagency pet adoption and fun day, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Fuji Park.
Dog Town, Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation, Douglas Animal Welfare Group, Pet Network, and the Carson City Animal Shelter will be represented. There will be vendor booths and fun events. Call 934-5774.

Reno consultant to hold customer service seminar
Roz Parry, a national Reno-based consultant who specializes in customer service and sales, will be holding a seminar for business owners about customer service over the phone from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Washoe County Complex, Building C, Room 110.
