Get ready for the Wildcats! Western Nevada Community College's baseball team played its first game Friday on the John L. Harvey Field. For $6, I got to watch a double-header.
Scott "Cheese" Rasner, who had dreamed for five years of getting baseball at WNCC, threw out the first pitch on Saturday's second game. Well, it went over the catcher's head, but, hey, at least it wasn't short.
The team plays for the last time Friday and Saturday. They still have tickets available for the big fundraiser at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino with guest speaker, Carson High School graduate Charley Kerfeld.
WNCC Athletic Fundraiser

It's National Foster Care Month, and on Sunday, a blue ribbon representing each child in Foster Care in Nevada was tied to a tree branch on the Capitol grounds. Helping a child have a good home who has never experienced such an environment is beyond rewarding.
Elizabeth Dorway sent me all the foster care information. Contact Child and Family Services Rural Region District Office (775) 686-4943; Division of Child and Family Services Systems Advocates (775) 684-4453 or 684-4447; Washoe County Department of Social Services (775) 328-2300; Sierra Association of Foster Families (775) 828-9977; or the Clark County Department of Family Services (702) 455-5483.
Foster families have provided approximately 4,000 children in Nevada with a caring, stable and safe environment. The children are of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, and many have severe physical, mental and emotional problems. Foster parents unselfishly open up their homes and hearts in an admirable effort to nurture and support these children.
