A Reno man was injured this morning when he collided with a state truck on Lakeview Hill.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Blair Harkleroad, the man was southbound on Highway 395 about 2,000 feet from Lakeview Road around 10 a.m. when he came upon a Nevada Department of Transportation "traffic cushion," vehicle which was following a street sweeper in the fast lane. The driver tried to veer around the truck, but struck its side bumper, careened into the concrete barrier on the west side of the road, then shot back across the lane and struck the street sweeper.
The lone occupant of the Hyundai sedan received serious head injuries and was flown to Washoe Medical Center from the scene.
Traffic was stopped for about 20 minutes while the helicopter landed and loaded the patient. Southbound traffic was routed onto the west shoulder at the scene of the accident for about 90 minutes.
