Arbor Day Foundation gives 10 trees to new members this month

Every person who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation during this month will receive 10 complimentary Colorado blue spruce trees.


The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between Oct. 15 and Dec. 10 with enclosed planting instructions. They are guaranteed to grow, or will be replaced free of charge.

Carson City


Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee meets


The Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Capitol Conference Room at City Hall, 201 N. Carson St. Enter the building from Musser Street.


Action items include a recommendation about parking on Musser Street between Division and Carson streets.




Traffic issues topic of commission meeting


The Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and Carson City Regional Transportation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center.


Included are presentations about proposed future street improvements in the downtown portion of Carson Street and the progress of the V&T Railway, and possible action about modifying the intersection of John and Stewart streets to accommodate more parking in the area.




Parks and Recreation requests nominations


The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation is requesting nominations of individuals, organizations and businesses to be recognized for their contributions to city's park system.


The selected names will be added to the Memorial Wall at the entrance to the Pony Express Pavilion.

Historic Resources Commission meets


The Historic Resources Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Focus will be on proposed future street improvements in the downtown portion of Carson Street.


Lake Tahoe


Festival to play three composers' works


The music of composers Vaughn Williams, Franz Schubert and Pyotr Tchaikovsky will be played Thursday at the Lake Tahoe Music Festival at Squaw Valley. Guest guitarist Christopher Kachian will join the Festival Orchestra.


Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for Strings" Opus 48, Williams' works and Schubert's "Arpeggione Sonata for Guitar and Strings."


The gate opens at 5, and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 for preferred seating, $35 for general admission and $15 for under 16. Concessions are available and picnics are encouraged.
