A memorial service for Donald A. Barr, 73, of Carson City, will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park on East Fifth Street.
Mr. Barr died Aug. 6, 2006, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 20, 1933, at Long Beach, Calif., to Loys Walter Barr and Lois Edrie Elzea.
He married Cecilia on June 6, 1953 in Belair, Md.
He had an associate's degree from Western Nevada Community College.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars, reaching the rank of first sergeant and receiving numerous citations, among them the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal.
He was the first vice president of the Korean War Veterans and Service Officer of the Year for the American Legion Post No. 4.
Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; son, Robert Barr of San Antonio, Texas; daughters Sydney Diamond of Seattle and Linda Barr of Bozeman, Mont.; sister-in-law, Bev Gilbert of Washington, Ark.; brother, Richard Barr of Livingston, Texas; three grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
