Dr. Ralph Otto Holstein, 78, a 35-year Carson City resident, died Aug. 11, 2006, in Chicago.
Dr. Holstein was born Oct. 27, 1927, in Chicago to Otto Holstein and Ernestine Grimm.
He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1955.
He was a veterinarian.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 to 1947 as an interpreter.
He was active in the Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society. He ran his own animal hospital and later served as a relief doctor along Chicago's North Shore.
He enjoyed animals, the outdoors, skiing, boating, scuba diving, hiking, traveling to Europe, and spending time with family, friends and his pets.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Holstein.
Inurnment will take place at the Genoa cemetery.
