One of Carson City's two Tier 3 sex offenders was behind bars Tuesday for allegedly moving into a North Carson Street motel room while being registered at a Ginger Lane address.
Allen Price Wade, 56, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony failing to register as a sex-offender. Judge John Tatro set his bail at $100,000.
According to Detective Bob Motamenpour, Wade registered with the Carson City Sheriff's Department on July 6 as living at 1239 Ginger Lane.
Motamenpour said he went to the home "several times" to confirm Wade's registration, but Wade was never there and the homeowner claimed he didn't know where Wade was.
Motamenpour said on his final visit last week he confronted the homeowner about his "conflicting stories" and told the man to have Wade call the sheriff's department.
On Monday when Wade called, Motamenpour told him to come into the office and Wade did. He was taken into custody Monday at 4 p.m. after allegedly admitting he'd been living at the Whistle Stop Inn in at 1421 N. Carson St. No. 7, since July 26.
Motamenpour said Wade also allegedly admitted he traveled to California for 10 days from Aug. 4 to Monday and activity on his ATM card indicates he was in Walnut Creek, Lafayette and Oakland.
Motamenpour said anyone with information on Wade's whereabouts since early July is asked to call the Detective Division at 887-2020, ext. 1410.
Wade, who also goes by the name Steve, was released from a Southern Nevada prison on July 4, after serving 18 years on a 1988 Sparks charge of sexual assault with the use of a deadly weapon. He was also convicted in 1976 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on charges of involuntary sexual battery and abduction and in 1981 in Martinez, Calif., on charges of kidnapping, rape and false imprisonment with a weapon.
The victims were girls between the ages of 16 and 19 years old.
Under Nevada law, sex offenders are required to register their address whenever they move. Failure to notify the local law-enforcement agency of a change of address or to provide false or misleading information to the Criminal History Repository is a felony.
The Carson City Sheriff's Department must notify the public of any Tier 3 offenders registered in the area.
A convicted sex offender who is assessed as posing a substantial risk of reoffending and a threat to public safety is designated as a Tier 3 offender.
The other Tier 3 sex offender in Carson City, Jerry D. McIntyre, is deemed not in compliance with Nevada Law. He has registered his address with the state as 507 N. Carson St., but according to Sheriff's Department records McIntyre has never registered with the Sheriff's Department.
