Special RTC meeting set
The Carson Regional Transportation Commission will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.
Focus will be on the city's fixed-route bus system, Jump Around Carson, as the city kicks off a new marketing campaign to commemorate its first year of operation. The commissioners will be asked to endorse the plan and authorize expenditure of funds. Residents - especially bus riders - are invited to attend.
Library Board of Trustees meets Thursday
Members of the Carson City Library Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.
Possible actions are scheduled for these items: recruitment of new library director, change in evaluation process of library director's job performance, filling vacant position of library systems and access-services specialist, and planning for library election ballot initiative.
Virginia City
First ever Pet Parade to be held in Virginia City
Virginia City will be holding its first ever Pet Parade at noon Saturday.
Registration and preregistration available at the Virginia City Visitors Center, 86 S. C St. All animal types are welcome but must be controlled by leash, reins or be carried by the owner.
Animal owners are responsible for cleaning any messes made by their pets, and all animals must have appropriate social skills for public viewing. Pet treats and water will be provided at the end of the parade. For information, call 847-4386.

Arboretum art workshops begin Thursday
There will be a four-part series of watercolor workshops at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum at the Rancho San Rafael Regional Park starting 6 p.m. Thursday.
Classes are from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, Sept. 7 and Sept. 14. Class fee is $35 for the series or $10 per workshop.

Slide show of historic barns Tuesday
Bob Crittendon, author of "Barn in the USA," and photographer Jack Hursh, local photographer and a contributor for "Barn in the USA" will present a free slide show of historic Nevada barns at 7 p.m. tonight at Bartley Ranch Regional Park.

Lecture on rock art at Galena High auditorium
The Nevada Rock Art Foundation will host a lecture by Jane Kolber about the rock art of Chaco Canyon Wednesday at the Galena High School auditorium at 3600 Butch Cassidy Way in Reno.
The lecture begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided.
Chaco Canyon, in New Mexico, was a major center of ancestral Puebloan culture between 850 and 1250.
