Dayton Valley Days coming
The 18th annual Dayton Valley Days street fair will be Sept. 16-17 in Old Town.
The theme will be "Pause and Ponder, From the Schoolhouse to Museum" recognizing Dayton's status of having one of the oldest schools still on its original site in Nevada. "Pause and Ponder" was the first name of the original Dayton settlement.
The event will include a parade, show 'n' shine car show, a fine-arts show and sale, train rides, games for the kids, entertainment, crafts, antique dealers and vendors of all kinds.
The event is sponsored by the Lyon County Sheriff's Search and Rescue and benefits that group and the Dayton Historical Society.

Fernley
Democratic candidates to make Labor Day stop
The Lyon County Democratic Central Committee will host a reception for all statewide Democratic candidates at the Fernley home of Jim and Teresa Williams from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Civil War Days this weekend
The Comstock Civil War Reenactors will hold a "Battle for C Street" this weekend in Virginia City.
On Saturday, there will be train battles at 10:30 a.m., 11:20 a.m. and 3 p.m. More battles will take place Sunday on the 11:20 a.m., 4 and 5 p.m. trains.
At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, there will be a Victorian dinner and ball at the Red Dog Saloon in the Old V&T Depot on E Street. A luncheon and formal tea party will be at 12:30 p.m.
On Sunday, upstairs at the Delta Saloon, a flag historian will show Civil War flags of the era as well as an 1860s-style fashion show.
On Monday, immediately following the noon Labor Day Parade, the final battle of the day will take place in the middle of C Street.

Parade salutes firefighters
Virginia City's annual Labor Day parade will be a salute to firefighters, with Storey County Firefighters Local 4227 as grand marshals. All area paid and volunteer firefighters are invited to take part.
Equestrians, marchers, floats and antique cars will also be part of the parade.
The parade will begin at noon Monday, down C Street. Entries will line up at the Fourth Ward School on the south end of C Street at 11:30. Late entries are welcome. Call 847-0311.
Comstock Cowboys play free show
David John and the Comstock Cowboys, who perform authentic Western music, will perform a free concert 3-7 p.m. Sunday in the Delta Saloon parking lot in the center of town. Call 847-4FUN.
