Telcom Pioneers to hold annual Christmas party


The Telcom Pioneers will hold its annual Christmas party at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Piñon Plaza Hotel.


There will be a voluntary present exchange and raffle prizes. Those who wish to participate in the present exchange must bring a gender-neutral gift of approximately $10 in value, wrapped. One present per person attending.


All interested current, past and retired Telcom persons, as well as guests, are welcome to attend.


Cost is $18 per person and includes Christmas dinner.

Coaches sought for basketball program


The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is seeking volunteer referees and coaches for its Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Basketball program.


This program is the official youth basketball program of the NBA/WNBA.


Practices begin Monday, and league play runs through March 31.

Dayton ski club holding enrollment meeting Wednesday


The Dayton 4-H Ski and Snowboard Club will be holding its final enrollment meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Dayton Intermediate School Multipurpose Room.


The club is open to anyone aged 9 through high school.


The program cost is $220 if you provide your own equipment, and $260 if you need rentals.

Fourth Ward School Museum raising funds for challenge match


The Fourth Ward School Museum in Virginia City has been given a challenge match for $50,000; they need to raise $12,845 to make up the balance by Dec. 31. The museum has raised $37,155 to act as a match and the Foundation for Cultural Affairs has been asked to offer $2,000, provided the museum eliminates the remaining deficit by Dec. 31. All money donated will benefit the museum's endowment fund.


To make a donation, call Barbara Mackey at 847-0975. Donations going toward the match grant must be pledged by Dec. 31, but don't necessarily have to be made by that date.

Sharkey's, CVI collection sites for Toys for Tots


Two Douglas County Businesses are collecting toys for the Carson area Toys for Tots campaign.


Sharkey's Casino, 1440 Highway 395 N., in Gardnerville and the Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395 N. in Minden are accepting donations.
