The search for a head varsity football coach at Virginia City High School has begun.
One of Nevada's oldest high schools will be adding a football program for the 2007 season. This will mark the first time that VCHS has played any type of organized football in more than 50 years. VCHS will be playing 8-man football in the 1A division.
The Storey County School District will be accepting applications until 2 p.m. on January 31. VCHS currently has two teaching positions available for the 2007-2008 school year, in mathematics and social studies.
The VCHS administration is hoping to fill the football job with a teaching applicant. If no qualified football coach is among the teaching applicants, then non-teaching applicants will be interviewed for the head coaching position. The goal is to name a head coach by March 1.
Home games for the Muckers will be played on the new athletic field planned for the campus of VCHS. The synthetic turf field will be built on the north side of campus, between the gymnasium and the St. Mary's Art Center. VCHS should begin construction on its football field in January.
Any questions should be directed to Patrick Beckwith, principal, 847-0992.
