GALENA 85, MCQUEEN 64
The Galena High boys basketball team put together a solid defensive first half in taking a 45-25 halftime lead on its way to improving to 2-0 in the High Desert League.
"The first half was pretty solid," Galena assistant coach Jeff Keyes said. "We feel we played really well defensively. We still think there's some work to do there.
"Offensively we did pretty well. We got good shots. We had good shot selection. The second half we had ups and downs. Overall it wasn't a bad performance by any means."
Thanks in large part to the play of point guard J.D. Peters, Galena had just four turnovers in the first half. Luke Babbitt hit 13-of-14 foul shots on his way to scoring 37 points and Brice Crook added 16 points. Peter Newell scored 17 points for McQueen.
Galena will next open play on Wednesday in the nation's most prestigious tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
