No regular mail service Tuesday to honor Ford

There will be no regular mail service or retail service at U. S. post office locations Tuesday, due to an executive order issued by President Bush, directing government agencies to close as a mark of respect for former President Gerald Ford, who died Dec. 26 Express Mail deliveries will be made on Tuesday. Regular service will resume Wednesday.

Scrapbooking class Thursday


There will be a class on preserving photos into albums at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Jobs Peak Room of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center. Cost is $5. Participants should bring a couple of packs of photos to make a sampler.

Southwest Gas required to relocate pipeline due to freeway


Southwest Gas is required to relocate a natural gas pipeline due to construction of the Carson City freeway.


The work is scheduled to begin Tuesday at the intersection of Edmonds Drive and Fairview Drive heading west to Saliman Road and north on Saliman to Fifth Street. Work will take several months.


Senior Center to hold computer classes


The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will offer basic computing classes, with early registration. Classes begin Jan. 8, from 8-10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 1 - 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $40, payable to the center's business office. Call 883-0703, ext. 222.

Photographer wins CAHI playhouse


Photographer Charlotte Kimball of Dayton is the winner of the playhouse raffle sponsored by Citizens for Affordable Homes Inc.


Kimball had gone to CAHI's office on 100 Pine Cone Road in Dayton to drop off some of her work, which she was donating for a silent auction, said Toni Van Cleave of CAHI. While there, Kimball purchased the winning ticket. Funds from the raffle go to support CAHI programs, Van Cleave said.

Washoe parks look for Junior Snow Rangers


Children ages 6-14 can sign up for Washoe County's Junior Snow Ranger program, a free do-it-yourself winter nature adventure with self-guided hikes and activities to help children learn more about nature in the winter and how to cope with winter weather.


Pick up a booklet from rangers at Lazy 5, Rancho San Rafael, Bartley Ranch, Bowers Mansion, Davis Creek or Galena Creek regional parks. Once the booklet has been completed, children meet with a ranger to talk about what they've learned. Participants who complete their booklet by March 31 will receive a Junior Snow Ranger certificate and an invitation to the End of Winter Party. Call 828-6612 to have a booklet mailed..
