A prison employee had to be rescued from the rooftop of the Northern Nevada Correctional Center's infirmary Friday after he received an electric shock while working on a fan.

Fritz Schlottman, spokesman for the Nevada Department of Corrections, said Fred Harris, a heating and air conditioning specialist, was on the roof of the hospital about 2:45 p.m. when he "hit a live wire."

Schlottman said a Carson City Fire Department ladder truck had to be called in to get Harris, who was conscious and responsive, off the roof. He was then taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center.

"It was unusually warm in here and he was adjusting the fans," Schlottman said.
