Carson Nugget patrons will be leaving their kids at home or dropping them off someplace else from now on. The downtown casino closed its children's lounge Sunday because of insurance liability.
Kelly Brant, director of casino promotions, said Monday the owners don't want to upgrade the supervised lounge to a fully licensed child-care faculty, which was what the insurance company requested.
"That's not our business," he said. "We had it as a convenience for our customers, but because of liability, the insurance company wanted it fully licensed."
He estimated that between 20-40 children a day are supervised in the lounge, which includes arcade games, skee ball, a pool table and a TV.
Doug Brown, Nugget director of public relations and training, said the casino doesn't have the space or the desire to invest in developing a child-care faculty. It has had the space, with adult supervision, for more than 20 years, he said.
"We simple don't have the faculty to do that," he said. "You must have X number of square feet per child. You must maintain medical records and state-approved meals. We don't have the faculty to maintain a licensed child-care faculty."
