Carson City and Carson Valley residents today have new, free newspapers to read.
The publications are called Nevada Appeal TODAY in Carson City and The Record-Courier TODAY in Carson Valley. A third publication, Tahoe Daily Tribune TODAY, will be launched this weekend in South Lake Tahoe.
The tabloid-size newspapers are available at several locations, such as coffee shops, casinos, stores and gas stations. They provide a quick, compact read on national and world news.
"TODAY gives people another option in the morning. They can grab one with their coffee and doughnut on the way to work and get an overview of what's going on in the world," said Appeal Editor Barry Smith.
"It's not a substitute for the Appeal or the Record-Courier," Smith added, "because we concentrate on local news. But interest is also high for national and world news, and this is a free and easy way for readers to get it."
TODAY will be published Wednesdays through Sundays in Carson and Eagle valleys and weekends in South Lake Tahoe. Home delivery isn't available.
More editions will be added in the next two months. TODAY will debut in Incline Village in March and in Truckee and Tahoe City in April.
TODAY is printed at the Nevada Appeal in Carson City and is a product of Sierra Nevada Media Group, which also publishes the Record-Courier, Tahoe Daily Tribune, Tahoe World, Sierra Sun, North Lake Tahoe Bonanza and Lahontan Valley News.
"We are very excited to offer these new publications to our readers," said John DiMambro, Appeal publisher and general manager of Sierra Nevada Media Group. "It is convenient, free, and adds extra days of distribution not currently available from other print products."
