Two Sierra Club hikes are scheduled this weekend for the Virginia Mountains north of Sparks and the V&T roadbed from Gold Hill to Mound House.

On Saturday, the group will go out Pyramid Highway to the "Monkey Condos" and the top of the ridge. High-clearance or four-wheel-drive vehicles are necessary.

The hike will be about eight miles long, and the elevation gain 1,500 feet. The group will leave Carson City at 7:45 a.m.

On Sunday, the club will hike the 12-mile V&T roadbed from Gold Hill to Mound House. The group will leave Carson City at 8:45 a.m.

Dogs are prohibited on these hikes.

Beers to address Dayton Chamber

State Sen. Bob Beers, R-Las Vegas, will be the featured speaker at the Dayton Chamber Business Luncheon at noon on Feb. 22 at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike St.

Horse group to hold ride, safety check

The High Desert Horsemen will hold a Valentine's Day Ride/Drive and equipment safety check Saturday at 215 David Ave., Stagecoach (Churchill Rancho Estates). There will also be a potluck lunch and a participation award.

Dinner theater musical planned

Red Rose Musical Production presents "Big Wind," a Will Rose original musical celebrating the spirit of Mardi Gras and dedicated to the people of New Orleans with a live orchestra at the Mandarin Garden Chinese Restaurant, 5 North C St., Virginia City.

Shows will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 24-25 with a special presentation at 7 p.m. on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 28. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
