(Appeal Capitol Bureau) - Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson said Friday that if he were elected governor he would push for more frequent and tougher inspections of Nevada's roads and highways.

Gibson, a Democrat, said the state's roads are under increasing stress because of the growing number of vehicles using them. He said recent problems discovered in Southern Nevada show the need for better inspections to prevent dangerous conditions from developing.

"Carefully inspecting and monitoring our roadways is paramount not only for the safety of all Nevadans, but also for the health of our economy," he said.

He said the state needs to improve the process of inspecting the roadways and to provide more funding for that work if needed.

"As governor, I will work to protect our transportation safety and economic health by spearheading this effort," he said.
