Nevada's Welfare Division has announced a cooperative agreement with the Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada to provide culturally specific services through the Native Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.

State officials said the program will provide "culturally specific services" designed to help tribal members and their descendants in Carson City and Douglas County. Those services include financial, medical and support services such as child care and transportation.

The caseload has been administered by the state but a spokesman said the new program is designed to begin transition of Native TANF cases to the new tribal program.
