Genealogical Society meets today


The Nevada State Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Family History Center at 4751 Neil Road, in Reno.


The public is welcome to attend.


The guest speaker will be Chip MacLeod, state commissioner for the Clan MacLeod Society, speaking about Scottish history and genealogy.

Nevada State Museum hosts two Washoe storytimes


The Nevada State Museum and the Nevada Art's Council present an afternoon of traditional Washoe stories for all ages and cultures.


Two sessions have been scheduled, from 1-2 p.m. and from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Nevada State Museum. Call 687-4810, ext. 237.




Junior Ski day resumes Feb. 26


There will be no Carson City Recreation Junior Ski/Snowboard Program on Sunday due to Presidents Day. The program will resume Feb. 26, weather permitting.

Carson Democratic women meet


The Carson City Democratic Women's Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Grandma Hattie's. Guest speaker is the Carson City Children's Museum director who will speak about their programs. All Democrats are welcome. Call 885-9917 or 841-6355.




Limited seating available for teas


At 11 a.m. March 11, a $12 tea will be held at the Roberts House Museum. Another tea will be held at noon on March 19; cost is $15 per person. Seating is also available for the noon tea on April 23. Cost is $15.

Brewery Arts Center holds silent auction


The Brewery Arts Center is holding a silent auction through March 3 on donated bisque pots. Last bids are due by 3:30 p.m. March 3. On March 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Artisan's Store the winners will be announced. Winners will then glaze and help raku fire the pots at the BAC pottery studio on King Street. All proceeds go toward the purchase of a new kiln for the studio. Call 721-3461.

Douglas County Commissioners meet today at courtroom


The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Douglas County Administration Building at 175 Highway 50, Stateline, to consider a tax to fund a new senior center. Call 782-9012.

Department of Agriculture to discuss crickets


The Nevada Department of Agriculture is holding a series of public meetings throughout Northern Nevada regarding the state's Mormon cricket and grasshopper-control and eradication program.


On Feb. 27, there will be a meeting in Reno at 6:30 p.m. at the Nevada Department of Agriculture.

Law firm sponsors bald eagles-themed name contest


A law firm in Oakland is sponsoring a contest with a theme surrounding the bald eagle.


There will be two winners, one for a 500-word story and one for a piece of artwork, as well as four finalists, two in each category.
