A memorial service for James P. Felix, 82, a 46-year resident of Escondido, Calif., will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 341 S. Kalmia St., in Escondido. A viewing will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 Broadway, Escondido.
Mr. Felix died Feb. 11, 2006, at the Palomar Medical Center in California. He was born July 17, 1923, to Philip and Theresa Felix.
Before moving to Escondido, he lived in Los Angeles.
At the age of 15 he operated "Jimmy's Parcel Delivery Service," which he ran for five years delivering prescriptions, groceries and furniture in Ashtabula, Ohio.
He was the owner of Felix & Associates Insurance Agency, in Escondido, Vista and Oceanside, Calif. In Los Angeles he was the district manager for the Mirror-News, and later owned and operated "Felix's Chicken City Barbeque" in Palm Springs.
He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Palomar Family Counseling Center, the Kiwanis Club, the Escondido Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, and the First United Methodist Church of Escondido. He was confirmed a Lifetime Member of the Chamber of Commerce in 2005. The Chamber created the "Jim Felix Volunteer of the Year" award in 2005, as well.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with General Patton's forces, returning home with a Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and the French Croix de Guerre.
He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph, and sister-in-law Angie.
Among his survivors are his wife of 62 years, Pauline, of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Linda Morris and John Freshwater; sons and daughters-in-law James and Jennifer and Jeff and Debbie; brother William of Carson City; sister-in-law Vi Felix, of Carson City; brothers and sisters-in-law Leo and Patty, and Frank and Dee, all of Carson City; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
