Carson girls ski qualifies for state

The Carson High girls ski team qualified for the NIAA State Championships during a series of races on Thursday.

Carson's girls took second in the Sierra League, finishing with just one loss in league, to secure one of the league's two spots for the state championships to be held on Feb. 25 and 26. Carson finished second behind Reno High after losing to Reno 88-64 on Thursday. Carson's girls did beat Sage Ridge 85-20.

The Senator boys just missed qualifying for state after losing to Reno 81-72. Carson's boys did beat Rite of Passage 90-49 and Sage Ridge 75-69 to finish 4-2 in league. All of Thursday's races were contested in the giant slalom.

Against Sage Ridge, Tatum Boehnke took second in 30.09 seconds, Jessica Goddard was third in 30.69, Kacey Potter was fourth in 30.86, Annie Brinson was fifth in 32.53, Krista Wisbar was sixth in 32.88 and Lisa Midboe placed seventh in 33.88.

Against Reno, Goddard was fourth in 31.92, Potter was seventh in 33.21, Midboe was ninth in 35.333, Libby Collins was 10th in 35.40, Yvette Hollett was 11th in 35.53 and Wisbar was 12th in 35.69.

Carson's boys swept the first six places against ROP: Caleb McCoy was first in 29.29, J.P. McFarren was second in 30.45, Chris Browne was third in 31.15, Somprosung Toyai was fourth in 32.07, Michael Aglietti was fifth in 32.14 and Isaac Holt was sixth in 34.36.

Against Reno, McCoy was second in 29.29, McFarren was sixth in 30.45, Browne was seventh in 31.15, Toyai was eighth in 31.60 and Aglietti was ninth in 32.14.

Against Sage Ridge, Browne was fourth in 28.45, Spencer Brinson was fifth in 28.49, McFarren was sixth in 28.70, Aglietti was seventh in 29.94, Toyai was eighth in 30.95 and Mike Beasom was 11th in 31.53.
